During the Lisbon conference, JA PreventNCD will organize a Roundtable together with JACARDI on Primary prevention and management of NCDs – the added value of joint actions across Europe. The session takes place on Thursday 14th November, 15:15-16.15. Coordinator of JACARDI, Benedetta Armocida, will outline how JACARDI aims to scale up efforts to tackle cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in Europe, and Scientific Coordinator of JA PreventNCD, Knut-Inge Klepp, will describe JA PreventNCD’s efforts to assist authorities in prioritizing the most effective prevention strategies and policies to reduce the burden of cancer and NCDs. Whilst JA PreventNCD emphasizes primary prevention and policy, JACARDI focuses on secondary prevention and health systems strengthening. The Joint Action mechanism relies on close collaboration among Member States and facilitates learning from each other and effective scaling up of best and innovative practices and policies. Both projects aim to generate new policy-relevant evidence, and they share a focus on equity, diversity, scalability and sustainability, while avoiding fragmentation and duplication of actions.
Real population impact is anticipated based on the vast amount of human and monetary resources invested, including a combined budget of over 160 million euros. This Roundtable will explore expected outcomes of these Joint Actions and important criteria for success, hoping to shed light on both opportunities for added value and challenges inherent in such large-scale projects. We hope to engage participants to share views and experiences that can benefit the two projects and spur further collaboration. Panelists include Claudia Habl, Director of International Affairs and Subsidiaries, The Austrian National Public Health Institute, Ane Fullaondo Zabala, Scientific Director of Biosistemak and Work Package co-leader and task co-leader in JACARDI and Arnfinn Helleve, Researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and Work Package leader in JA PreventNCD. The session will be chaired by JACARDI’s Scientific Coordinator, Graziano Onder, and Hanna Tolonen, who has important roles in both JACARDI and PreventNCD in addition to being current president of EUPHA’s Section on Public Health Monitoring and Reporting.”
